Borobudur

Ce temple bouddhiste fut construit entre l'an 750 et 850 (300 ans avant Angkok Vat au Cambodge). Il est constitué de 60 000 m3 de pierres. L'architecte fut Gunadharma. Le site fut oublié pendant des siècles. Il était enseveli sous les cendres volcaniques du Merapi. C'est en 1815 que le site fut redécouvert. Au fil des ans, la colline s'était engorgée d'eau et le temple commençait à s'affaisser. En 1968, un projet de sauvegarde a été mis sur pied. Des fonds de l'Unesco ont entre autres été utilisés. Une restauration a eu lieu de 1973 à 1984. Le site est maintenant ouvert au public. Le côut de restauration s'éleva à 25 millions US$.

This bouddhist temple was built between 750 and 850 (300 years before Angkor Vat in Cambodge). It's made of 60 000 m3 of stones. The architect was Gunadharma. It was forgotten for years. It was hidden under the ashes of the Merapi volcano. It's only in 1815 that it was rediscovered. As years went by, the hill where it was built was starting to fall because of the water going in the structure. It's in 1968 that a project of restauration started. They started to renovate it in 1973 until 1984. They had many sponsers and Unesco was one of them. The total cost was 25 millions US$.
